Encaustic Art (Painting in Wax)Encaustic means to "burn in". The ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians used pots of hot, dyed wax and wooden brushes to paint their icons on wood.
Today Encaustic Painting has reversed the process, using heat tools such as an iron, a soldering tool with different heads and a hot air gun. Dyed beeswax in still used but this now comes in solid blocks. It is a versatile art form with which you can create landscapes or abstracts with some magical effects. |
